All of our rescues are spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on all vaccines prior to adoption. They will have been checked by a vet, and any problems that are considered a detriment to their health will be treated. Each rescue is placed in a loving foster home until they find a permanent home. We are a non-profit organization funded simply by donations. We ask that a donation of: Puppy through 3 years old: minimum donation $350; Adults 4 through 9 years old: minimum donation $250; Seniors 10 years old and over: minimum donation $100 be given for any rescue adopted. Please feel free to complete our adoption application so you may be considered when rescues are brought into our organization. NVSR normally has more dogs in foster than those listed here. We don't put a Sheltie on the web site until we have completed our evaluation of them and we often place dogs without putting them on the web site because we have the perfect adopter for them in our potential adopter files.

Name:

Dusty

 Gender:

Male

 Height/Weight:

15"; 21 lbs

 Color:

Sable

Age:

8 Years

 Comments:

Dusty is a sweet boy who loves to snuggle on your lap. His other favorite place is to sit at your feet. He greets you with a friendly tail wag while gazing adoringly into your eyes. He wants nothing more than to stay close by his special some one. He is very sensitive and would do best in a quieter home with someone who is kind and gentle with him. Dusty is a joy to walk. He stays close to your side, never pulling on the leash. He gets along fine with other non-aggressive dogs. He’s fine around his foster mom’s cats, but does tend to chase when presented the opportunity. He is HW negative.

Jack

 Gender:

Male

 Height/Weight:

13"; 16 lbs

 Color:

Sable

Age:

4 Years

 Comments:

Like a fine masterpiece, Jack is a work-in-progress. Jack has been learning about the pleasures of being in a home were he is treated as a part of the family - he came to NVSR from a puppy mill. He has a great disposition but needs work on learning how to be a spoiled house mate. With training, Jack would be a great agility or flyball candidate. His nicknames are Mad Jack, Jack Rabbit and Jumpin Jack Flash.

Name:

Jill

 Gender:

Female

 Height/Weight:

14.5"; 23 lbs

 Color:

Sable and White

Age:

8 Years

 Comments:

Jill spent most of her early life mothering puppies and now she's ready to live the life of luxury. Once she feels safe, Jill becomes a delightful, wiggling furball. She's unusually quiet for a Sheltie, but will make you aware of her presence at feeding time. She loves to sit in your lap and snuggle on your bed. She gets along well with 3 Sheltie foster brother and sisters and learned to use the doggie door by following them. She has been around cats and young children and would probably do better with pre-teens and up. She frightens easily at loud noises or commotion. She enjoys basking in the sun in her fenced yard. If you have patience and understanding of her insecurities and can overlook some facial imperfections, Jill will make a wonderful companion. She is HW negative.

 Height/Weight:

 Color:

Age:

7 Years

 Comments:

My name is Keiko. I'm a very special girl looking for an equally special person. I lost my tail in an accident, but I haven't lost my zest for life. I love to play fetch or go for walks. I also love to snuggle on the couch with my favorite person. Whatever you want to do is fine with me. I ride nicely in the car and am crate trained, I'm also good with other dogs and cats. The accident has left me a high maintenance girl but I'm worth it. Could you be the special person I'm looking for? She is HW negative.

Name:

Kensy

 Gender:

Female

 Height/Weight:

19"; 40 lbs

 Color:

Sable and white

Age:

2 Years

 Comments:

Kensy (Kensington) is a big shy girl without much worldly experience, but she is basically happy and playful and loves attention. She grew up with a pack of collies and will be happy with a confident dog to play with. She will need an adopter who is willing to very patiently expose her to new things and experiences and take her to positive training classes that will build confidence. She will do best with a fenced yard because she has lots of energy to unleash in her great strides (the garden raceway should not have small, tight turns; she’ll just miss them). She is HW negative.

Kirby

 Gender:

Neutered Male

 Height/Weight:

21"; 30 lbs

 Color:

Color-headed White

Age:

5.5 Years

 Comments:

I may not look like a typical Sheltie, but I assure you I AM one! I'm a "color-headed white"; I don't look like anyone else-just me! I'm long, lean, and I move gracefully. With my gentle, reserved nature, I crave love and attention. I'll give you back more than I get too! I can climb gently up your body to give you standing kisses and hugs. I'd love to have a home where I can go on long walks and have loving companionship. I get along fine with other dogs and even cats. I'm afraid of small children, so I need a home with more grown up people. I'm happy, healthy and heartworm negative.

Name:

Kris Kringle

 Gender:

Male

 Height/Weight:

14"; 20 lbs

 Color:

Sable

Age:

8-10 Years

 Comments:

Kris Kringle is full of spunk, and always ready for a game of fetch including balls and toys. He is a tugging machine, and brightens up any hour of the day with his silliness and friendly personality. He gets along with other dogs and cats. Kris came into rescue with old break in his front leg that had to be amputated, now he is back to being a pain free boy who loves everyone, and would be a wonderful therapy dog. Stairs are no problem to him and his energy abounds. Kris was diagnosed with TCC, now on daily medication to keep the disease at bay. If you are looking for that special dog that will fill your life with joy and keep you laughing daily, look no further.

Name:

Maizie

 Gender:

Female

 Height/Weight:

17"; 32 lbs

 Color:

Blue Merle

Age:

12 Years

 Comments:

Maizie is a sweet, active girl who insists that she is not really 12 years old. She loves to go for fast-paced walks, play soccer and tennis ball, and run around the yard to find those pesky squirrels. But she also likes to just sleep nearby while you work or relax. She is sweet-tempered and enjoys meeting people and dogs on walks, but she'd rather you not bring those dogs home with you. She has been someone's beloved pet-she knows sit, come, down, shake, and more. She can be somewhat bossy when other dogs are around, especially when she has food or her favorite toys, and she doesn't shy away from a fight. She has far more interest in playing with people than with other dogs (she mostly likes to get in on a bit of a chase), so she will be happiest in a one-dog household. We don't know how she does with cats, but she shows an intense interest in exotic birds. Maizie is negative for Heartworm.

Name:

Quentin

 Gender:

Male

 Height/Weight:

13"; 23 lbs

 Color:

Sable/white

Age:

7 Years

 Comments:

Quentin is a sweet, good natured dog who requires very little to be happy - just a soft place to sleep and some positive attention. He weighs about 20 lbs, and is most likely somewhere between 7 and 9 years old. He's excellent with children, people, cats, and other dogs and has wonderful house manners. He never tears up furniture, very rarely barks, and is excellent about only going to the bathroom outside. He is also great with car rides, and never pulls at his lead during walks. He's never timid when approached by another dog or going into a new environment - he's always curious and cheerful!

Name:

Bobo

 Gender:

Male

 Height/Weight:

16"; 19 lbs

 Color:

White with brown

Age:

1 year

 Comments:

Bobo loves attention whether it be playing in the yard or cuddling with you on the couch. He can be shy in new situations, but given a little time shows his cheerful personality. Due to his kidney issues, Bobo is looking for a family where someone is home most of the day so he can get plenty of water and be let outside when he needs. He gets along fine with other dogs, but will chase cats. He is HW negative.
