In June 2002, Sassy and I (Heidi) were adopted by a wonderful family, including two moms (who are sisters); a bunch of uncles and aunts; a grandma and grandpa and lots of people to give us treats. We also have a cousin named D.O.G. who comes to our house to visit a lot. We also go to work with our moms and get to see D.O.G. every day. Sassy settled right into our new house and schedule and started playing, playing, playing. It took me a little longer to get settled but I have adjusted well and am starting to like my new family. Our moms took us and D.O.G. to the beach in North Carolina. We didn't really like the ocean waves because we don't like to get wet but D.O.G. really loved it. I didn't like all the steps that I had to climb. Sassy was lucky because one of our moms would carry her up and down the steps because she had hip problems. We celebrated Christmas and we received lots of gifts from our new family and friends. Then it snowed and we really got to have fun. I didn't like the snow very much but Sassy sure did. I just wanted to go out and do my business and then go back inside but Sassy wanted to stay out and play. She liked to eat the snow! I thought that was really gross! I even told her that but she never listened to me, and she kept right on eating it. D.O.G. was also at our house because her Daddy was out snowplowing. I'm not sure what that is but I was glad that she got to stay at our house. We eventually fell into a routine where I laid on my bed and Sassy played with our moms. Then in March Sassy got sick and wasn't able to play very much. Our moms were very sad when they got back from the vet and didn't have Sassy, I know that my moms miss Sassy but they should be happy because they gave her a good life. I miss Sassy but I have become more outgoing since she died. I have had to take more care of my moms and I have to keep telling them what to do. For some reason, they keep going outside when it is raining and then I have to yell at them when they come back. They also keep leaving me at home and then I have to yell at them for forgetting to take me with them. I have also finally been given my rightful place to sit in the car. I don't know why it took my moms so long to figure out that I was supposed to sit up front, but they finally figured it out. When my moms first got me, they thought they were getting a quiet, little dog that didn't bark and didn't like people, but boy were they wrong! I can be pretty vocal when I want to be, especially when I want a treat. I also don't understand why humans run the vacuum (which I hate); or why those dumb humans go out in the rain especially when it is thundering. I would like to thank Kathy and Jim for being such wonderful foster parents to Sassy and me. I would also like to thank all the wonderful people with NVSR for the special care they gave us. |
